Long-time union activist and beloved husband, father and grandfather, Mike McNeil died suddenly and peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 12 in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, where he had been travelling on union business. Mike had just turned 60 years old in February, and became president of CUPE Nova Scotia in November, 2015, after a lifetime of union activism and leadership. Mike is survived by his wife Darlene, his three children, Dianne, JR and Emily, and his five grandchildren. CUPE and the entire labour movement in Nova Scotia are mourning this sudden loss.
Visitation will be held in the Great Hall at the Anglican Diocesan Centre located at 1340 Martello Street, Halifax (entrance via the purple awning door) on Thursday, March 17 from 6:30-8:30pm. Funeral Service will be held at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, 1330 Martello Street, Halifax on Friday, March 18 at 11am. A reception will follow in the Great Hall.
