TO ALL IBEW FIRST DISTRICT LOCAL UNIONS
Greetings:
The IBEW recognizes the great diversity that our membership represents and the importance of engaging members to ensure that the work of the IBEW continues to reflect that diversity. The IBEW RENEW/NextGen Advisory Committee is comprised of a representative from each Vice-Presidential District. The committee meets in person at least once annually and participates in monthly virtual meetings. The committee’s goals include strategizing on how to best engage young workers in the IBEW, their communities and the broader labour movement. Committee members also share best practices and brainstorm on how to solve issues affecting young workers.
The purpose of this correspondence is to solicit the name of anyone from your Local Union who is willing to serve on this very important committee. Committee members must be an IBEW member in good standing and must be 35 years of age or younger. When committee members turn 36, they will age out of the committee and will then be replaced with a new member. We encourage Local Unions to consider diversity of branch, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation when choosing a name to put forth.
Please keep in mind that the successful candidate’s Local Union will be responsible to provide financial support for travel and meals associated with attending the annual in person committee meeting. The committee member will also be required to attend the bi-annual RENEW/NextGen Conference which takes place on odd numbered years. The next conference is scheduled for the summer of 2023 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Once again, travel, meals and accommodations would be the responsibility of the Local Union.
Please submit the name and contact information to my office via email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) of anyone you believe would be interested and suitable to serve on this committee to assist in accomplishing its goals by no later than Friday, September 30, 2022.
