Recently, Doug King, Assistant Business Manager, was spending time with his father-in-law; Hank Leblanc of Amherst, Nova Scotia. Over the years Hank had told Doug stories of when he used to work with Nova Scotia Power & the IBEW, building transmission lines across Nova Scotia in the 1950’s. Hank’s 89th birthday was Jan 3, 2017. Hank was born in 1928. Local 1928 now offers apparel available for purchase at the union hall, so Doug thought this would be a unique birthday gift for Hank. Having been a former IBEW member Hank was proud to wear Local 1928’s gear with his birth year on it. January 3rd, 2017 was declared Hank Leblanc Day in his honour. Happy Birthday Hank!

IBEW Local 1928 would like to thank the members of UPEI for their cooperation and patience throughout the negotiations process. The collective agreement was ratified on January 11, 2016. The results of the vote were 96% in favour.
Thank you to all members and the negotiating committee of UPEI.
The IBEW 1st District awards five $1000 post-secondary scholarships to family members of Canadian IBEW members in good standing.

Brothers and Sisters.
I want to make it clear to all members that IBEW Local 1928 stands in support of the teachers in Nova Scotia and their Local Union, NSTU. We will stand alongside of NSTU members as they struggle to fight off Bill 75 and will oppose any legislation the government imposes on NSTU members which erodes the collective bargaining process. I urge you to reach out to your MLAs and Councillors to voice your displeasure on how our government is handling this matter. We can all make a difference come election time. "We are a voice if we stand united."
Fraternally,
Jim Sponagle
