Greetings:

Union women have blazed the trail when it comes to fighting for a more feminist and equitable Canada.  Coast to Coast, our IBEW Local Unions are also continuing to build Local Union Women’s Committee’s so that our sisters can gather and discuss issues important to them and their respective industries, jobsites and provide peer-to-peer support. These committees have been actively involved in their communities and Local Unions in various capacities across the country.

This International Women’s Day let’s celebrate our successes, lift up women workers, and take the time in the coming weeks and months ahead to thank our sisters of the IBEW and support them in their efforts to achieve their professional and committee goals within your Local Union.

In solidarity,

IBEW - 1st District Office

On February 22, Nova Scotia Power and IBEW Local 1928, in conjunction with the Tufts Cove Maintenance Department, collectively contributed a donation of $5,000 to Feeding Others of Dartmouth, a registered charity whose mission is to provide free meals to adults in need within the HRM.

This February, we celebrate the history and struggles of Black Americans and Canadians.

As we recognize Black History Month, let us never forget the invaluable contributions made by Black workers to North America’s labor movement.

Standing up against discrimination, they have been on the forefront of the fight for not just civil rights but economic justice as well.

And today, more than ever, Black workers are crucial to building a more robust and bigger IBEW and labor movement in the years to come.

Ending systematic racism is inseparable from the goal of economic justice, and Black trade unionists will remain at the forefront of making real the full promise of democracy.

Our diversity is our strength and our union’s stronger because of it.
